Abstract

The 30s, a small group of esotericists meet in a gloomy castle to try a paranormal experiment, but a terrifying surprise awaits in the darkness. The protagonists will be drawn into the depths of horror, unable to distinguish the fragile boundary between real and imaginary. The event is divided into two parts, which also mark two different atmospheres and two experiences for the participants. The first part is more mundane, reproducing a typical high-class evening of the 30s, while the second is tinged with increasingly disturbing elements. The horror manifests itself in many forms, and Ouija was also written to push the players, through their characters, to be agents of the horror and not just its spectators. To this end, Ouija provides some game mechanics specifically designed for the event. Each character can be the protagonist of self-writing episodes, spiritist or demonic possession, or real disquieting hallucinations in which the character’s nightmares become real and tangible.
