Abstract

The Last Hideout was set during the years of lead and aimed at recreating the Italian social and political tensions of the late 70s. The larp was inspired by the real kidnapping of NATO general James Lee Dozier, performed by the Red Brigades (a terrorist group of far-left extremists). Beyond the investigations to rescue the hostage, many themes typical of those years were dealt with: union demands, student fights, drug and weapon traffic, secret services activities, mob and international pressures. In the fictional town of Pindemonte, where the events took place, the complex dynamics and conflicts of the overall country were reproduced, recreating the same divisions and social fabric on a smaller scale. The approach used to reach this goal consisted in fostering the sense of belonging to groups, such as the students, workers, or law enforcement, and at the same time stressing conflicts due to different political and ideological points of view.
