Abstract

“Cultists: Before Dawn” was a larp set in 1927 near Pisa, about the Myths of Cthulhu on the familiar background of a quiet little town, against the backdrop of history-changing events taking place in those years. Here, the classic point of view of the “Call of Cthulhu” has been upset and overturned: instead of impersonating the usual part of the demon hunter or the investigator, the players could be one of the crazy worshipers of the Great Ancients, living the rituals “behind the scenes,” understanding how a man can devote himself to earthly evils and finding all the expedients not to betray their true nature with the uninitiated until absolutely necessary. Many of the characters were classic figures inspired by the world of Lovecraft, cultists and high priests, Myths in disguise, crazy worshippers, servants of alien races, but others were common citizens, all the characters, with different motivations, for a night in one place, the Temple of Minerva Medica in Montefoscoli (PI).
