Abstract

“1985: fascinated by a Buddhist legend about a mystical Himalayan artifact, Edward Bennett tries to climb the holy mountain Chomo-Lonzo. No one hears from him again, so his sister Janet sets up a rescue expedition...”

The idea behind this larp was to make good use of the impressive scenery of Campo Imperatore in the Italian Apennines. Titled “Le Cime del Bardo” (“The Peaks, or Heights, of Bardo”), it was not based on history, but rather inspired by new age mythology.

“Bardo” also was an experiment to create an easily re-runnable larp, intended to be played in a single day with little costs, and with all the game material available, including PDFs for players and organizers, and audio files. The characters are American explorers in Tibet, highly confident in their culture’s superiority; they will take a while to realize that they are actually in the “Bardo”, the intermediate state between death and reincarnation...

Techniques: minimal ruleset, play to flow approach, 360° realism.
