Abstract

OPERA explored the dichotomy between roleplay and theatre. For the first time, players were able to live inside a real Opera House from 1836, the Teatro Sociale di Soresina, where the stories of the characters unfolded. Set in 1890, after the death of the original owner of the Opéra Populaire, new investors took over and established a new company, preparing for a grand reopening on Mardi Gras. OPERA gave players the opportunity to truly create their own show: characters were actors, dancers, musicians, stage managers, directors, laborers, and set designers. Divided into four acts, the event spanned a six-month period, during which characters developed relationships, intrigues, and stories that led to a Grand Finale, building to a crescendo worthy of Rossini.
