Abstract

“Sogno di una Notte di Fine Inverno” (“A Winter’s Night Dream”) was set in the fictional Witzenburg, a peaceful mountain village, with its inner dynamics, romances, rivalries, gossip and the humble everyday work. One day, it is turned upside down by the arrival of an extravagant artists’ company offering to perform to celebrate the beginning of spring. The visit brings novelty and exoticness, and afterwards, like in “Babette’s feast,” nothing can ever be the same.

Far from the most common larp tropes, this event was meant to be a comedy set in a fairy-tale 19th century, full of tricks and jokes. A lot of narrative space was also given to arts, and some of the players gave birth to actual performances: acting, singing, dancing, juggling...

The location was an evocative alpine hamlet, which added to the atmosphere.

Techniques: WYSIWYG, prewritten characters, introductory workshops, realistic set design, SFX, in-game artistic performances.
