On the night of 26 April 2026, a fire broke out in the permanent medieval village built for the Bicolline larps. The historic district of Vieille Ville (Old Town) suffered severe damage: twenty-two wooden buildings were destroyed, eighteen of them completely. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Bicolline is a campaign played in French that hosts the Grande Bataille (Big Battle), one of the largest and best-known larp events in the world: it takes place in Quebec, Canada, and brings together over 3,000 participants.
So far, there is no official information on the cause of the fire, although arson appears to have been ruled out.
No official fundraising campaign has been launched, and in fact, the organization itself is asking people not to start any or to take part in any unauthorised initiatives.
The Bicolline administration and its various departments are working closely with the authorities. According to reports, it was thanks to the intervention of the fire department that the blaze was prevented from spreading to the surrounding wooden buildings.
The history of the Duchy of Bicolline began in 1994, and the first Grande Bataille was held in 1996. Thirty years later, preparations were underway for the upcoming events starting in mid-May, and especially for Grande Bataille 1026, scheduled for August 9–16, 2026.
The fire has understandably shaken the staff, and at this time, it is not yet possible to determine in what form the events will take place.
