Abstract

“All in One Night - A Fateful Auction” is a LARP born out of an idea by Federico Malavasi, aimed at depicting a lesser-known aspect of World War II: the Vichy puppet regime. To help players identify with the lives of people at the time, we worked hard on historical authenticity, including uniforms, weapons, identity papers, military hierarchies, and racial laws. The LARP's main theme was life in a gilded bubble. It focused on high-society characters who tried to ignore the horrors of war and institutionalized racism through expensive and sophisticated pastimes, such as attending an exclusive painting auction. Several characters had secret identities or motivations, being spies, fugitive Jews, deserting scientists, or Resistance members. We wanted players to live an experience that was both tragic and luxurious. Therefore, we made a significant effort to represent the high-end atmosphere of the LARP, featuring fancy food and wines, a live piano exhibition, a simultaneous game of chess, and more.
