Abstract

“SALT - the other war” is a larp that aims at offering a hard, raw and realistic war experience. Already played twice in 2018, the event was rerun in a different and larger location, which allowed for some design changes. The central core is the story of the other side of every war: no battlefields or professional soldiers, only suffering civilians. Characterized by an intimate and brutal design, SALT offers a concrete experience of deprivation, a tale with no heroes. The heart of the narrative is filled with tension, feeling, intensity and pain. The intimacy of relationships accompanies the physical action, in the attempt to offer players an experience that is as bitter and real as possible. The wild races to hide from bombings alternate with static and claustrophobic experiences. Under trembling walls, a community is shyly built: humanity is the protagonist, and war is its real enemy.
