Abstract

For the first time a world heritage site of UNESCO hosted an event in which history was the protagonist. The staff showed a class of high school students the basics of role playing, larp fighting, together with the historical context in which the event took place. The Norman kings invited their people to a celebration in their honor. The participants had also the opportunity to admire the medieval herbarium reproduced by the students of the De Cosmi high school. Characters of other times, trained for the occasion, described the history of the Zisa castle, an Arab-Norman jewel placed in the world heritage of humanity. The benefits of plants and spices were rediscovered, while on the outside the warriors fought in the arena, the archers trained to shoot with bow and arrow, and in the scriptorium anyone could try the techniques of medieval calligraphy and craftsmanship.
