Abstract

"Keystone" had been played twice, in Italian, in 2015. In 2019, we re-ran it three more times, including an English-language edition for international players; in total, this larp has involved more than 400 participants. The focus of this event is the true meaning of Power: the fragile psychological balances that bring a person to dominate other people, or to be subjugated by others' will. Where does real power lie, what makes someone powerful or respected? Moral authority, knowledge, money, seduction, or charisma? The larp was written 5 years ago with great care and detail, and thus only minimal corrections were needed. Each character is described in a style inspired by 19th-century novels, and their story is interlaced with plot hooks, backstory elements, and connections to other characters, creating a unique experience every time, as remarked by several 2015 participants who played it again last year, and by the vastly different development we observed in each of the five runs.
