Abstract

1718 - A pirate outpost on the edge of a new era, an expedition on the search for a legendary treasure: the passions and struggles of men and women in the golden age of piracy. Heirs of the missing Captain Raven clash with those who want to get their hands on his legacy, while western governors tighten their grip to suffocate the dream of a free republic. Based off works such as Treasure Island by R. L. Stevenson and the tv series Black Sails, Raven Crew was two events in one: 40 players sailed through the Tuscan Sea on the brig La Grace for 4 days, while the other 40 played in the outpost on the beach. The two events were designed to come together and have a shared ending. The designer chose to write rich connections, have unisex pre-written characters, and replace gender and racial discrimination with culture-based differences. Animating locations far from one another has made for a constant challenge - but the design has been successful and has delivered the author’s view.
