Abstract

"The mind is its own place, and in itself can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven." ー John Milton, Paradise Lost, Book I 1973. The monastery of San Michele Arcangelo had remained semi-abandoned for twenty years after the fire that had nearly completely devastated it. Only a few monks remained to guard it. Then, an elderly benefactor, a scholar of ancient books, began restoration work, but her death—sudden and brutal—had once again cast silence over that place. The same tragic fate had befallen her young assistant only a few months earlier, who died in a fatal accident. Now, a diverse group of people has gathered for the woman’s funeral and the reading of her will, but dark mysteries are still enclosed within the walls of the monastery, and terrible secrets wait only to be revealed. PARADISE LOST is a larp set in 1973 within a monastery shrouded in mysteries. It offers an investigative adventure for 26 participants, who delve into complex stories and interact freely, becoming part of a dark plot. Inspired by works like ‘The Name of the Rose’, the game blends reality and superstition, with players seeking a hidden murderer among them. The Thrilling Weekend format, born in the ‘90s from Gilda Anacronisti, evolved to become a corporate incentive, team building, and communication tool with Argonath in 2002. Eryados then refreshed the format in 2010, introducing PARADISE LOST as the first original scenario.
